Kansas Pipeline Points Inspected

TransCanada Corp. has been conducting new tests along its Keystone pipeline after earlier testing showed several “anomalies” along the pipeline, which has been moving oil from Canada down through Kansas and several other states since June. The anomalies were found at 12 sites in Kansas, 9 sites in Missouri, 14 in Nebraska and 12 in South Dakota. The company has since been testing 10 sites, but has not completed evaluating the results and so cannot comment at length. TransCanada said it discovered the 47 anomalies after performing an inline inspection of the 1,087-mile pipeline in November. Company spokesman Terry Cunha said the anomalies were spots on the pipeline where the pipe may have expanded, but he says the line is safe. The federal agency that oversees the nation’s pipelines said it’s monitoring the testing. ((09 DEC 2010))
