Keystone XL —- Nebraska Lawmakers Send Letter To Hillary Clinton

NE Lawmakers Send Letter on Pipeline to Clinton. The letter asks Clinton to support the requests of Nebraska’s U.S. Sens. Mike Johanns and Ben Nelson in urging the State Department to fully explore the safety and siting of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline. Nearly two dozen state lawmakers signed a letter sent to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton citing their concerns about a proposed oil pipeline that would cut through Nebraska and over the Ogallala aquifer. On Wednesday, state Sen. Ken Haar of Malcolm released the letter, dated Jan. 21. TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline would carry oil from Canada through several states, including Nebraska, to Texas oil refineries. It would course over parts of the massive Ogallala aquifer, which supplies drinking water to about 2 million people in eight states and supports irrigation. ((27 JAN 2011))
