Alaskan Dirty Energy Tax Breaks —- $3 Billion Since 2006

Tax breaks for oil, gas $3 billion since 2006. New estimates indicate the state expects to have provided oil and gas companies with $3 billion in tax breaks since fiscal year 2006. Lawmakers are trying to get a better sense of whether the tax credits are leading to the level of oil exploration and development the state wants. The Senate Finance Committee opened hearings on the issue Thursday. Gov. Sean Parnell has proposed expanded credits and cutting oil production taxes, hoping to spur investment and create jobs. The Finance Committee’s Republican co-chairman, Sen. Bert Stedman, said he hopes to hear from industry as hearings continue. ((10 FEB 2011))
