State Lawmakers Concerned Over Keystone Pipeline

Lawmakers are considering weighing in on plans to run an oil pipeline through 17 Nebraska counties. The Keystone XL Pipeline will be constructed next year. The pipeline will run over the massive Ogallala Aquifer that helps feed the region. It would carry oil from Canada through several states including Nebraska to Texas oil refineries. Several state lawmakers including Senators Ken Harr, Annette Dubas, and Kate Sullivan have expressed concern about the pipeline. While routing of the pipeline is likely a federal issue, state lawmakers could consider measures to protect landowners in the event of an oil spill. ((30 DEC 2010))
